Well The Times They Are A Changin’

As I’m sitting here at my desk at 11:22 pm deactivating my Adobe CS3 license, I can’t help but get a little reminiscent. As most people do when formatting, I consider the good times, the bad, the amazing, the ugly and measure its weight. It’s with much sadness that I’m announcing my departure from Blue Flavor, as today is my last.
Blue Flavor has done a tremendous amount for me personally. It surrounded me with unbelievably talented people, and placed me near a the spotlight of well-known and respected citizens in our little community here. Tom was the clever, versatile go to guy; Keith Robinson the mad scientist creative and effective; Jeff Croft the T1000 developer/designer; Tiffani Jones the only smart person we had; Nick Finck the most-giving man on the planet; and Kevin Tamura (Website not pictured, you lazy bastard) one of the finest people I’ve ever had the distinction to work with.
To say that all of them are talented would be trite. They are fantastic. I was the Ringo there, and I loved it. I would really like to thank Nick for getting me in the door, Keith for saying yes, and the rest of you guys for not knowing enough about me to say no, yet. I learned a tremendous amount from all of you.
The decision to leave Blue Flavor was not related to current events. Blue Flavor is moving in a great direction: it’s going to be a powerhouse. The addition of Pondry adds the leadership of Jon Pederson, someone who I met through the Blue Flavor connection, and who I would love to work for. Pondry is a huge ball of development talent that can build just about anything.
It just wasn’t in the cards…
Around SXSW of this year, I made a decision to move. Being in a city like Austin causes my curiosity synapses to disassemble and reassemble in a new form (like Voltron). While I’m not headed to Austin, I decided it was time to seek out opportunities to move elsewhere as I had gotten a little too fat and happy for my mischievous age. After approval from the lady-friend (which was the actual decision), we decided to seek out opportunity in other lands.
San Francisco.
Yes, the Blue Flavor ex-patriate’s migration to the refugee camps of San Francisco continues, and I will be joining their ranks in September. I’m excited to explore one of the greatest cities in the country and be among the crazies… perhaps join them.
This is a “golden” opportunity for my “sunset” in Seattle and to “embarcadero” on a new “mission”. I give you people GOLD in prose form.
I’m ready. This is the part where I talk about missing Seattle. I will, but I’m keeping that sweet-little paragraph for me and my friends here.
So what am I doing about employment?
Virb.
How fucking sweet is that.
I’m contractually obligated in this post to say three nice things about Brad Smith:
1. He knows the guys who work at Virb
2. He knows guys who know guys who work at Virb
3. I think he met Ryan Sims once.
...and I really, sincerely believe in what he and Virb are doing. Bonus nice thing.
Also, have you looked at Virb’s team? Those guys are killer. The functionality of the site is incredible. They are a bunch of badasses. How in God’s name am I going to do this? Only 7 of them made this awesome website. All I can do is tell really bad jokes…
New Feature: Virb jokes!

You can hire me for some sweet freelance. I'll also make fun of you for $10.
