Copy this link for a short URLI’m delighted, nay proud, nay delighted-proud, nay delighted-proud-excited to announce the opening of my sweet biz on-the-side, Kenny Meyers: Web Developer Extraordinaire.
Take a minute… soak it in.
First post!
First, we must deal with the first issue, firstly.
I am still at, and very much in love with, Virb. Work there is challenging, thrilling, engrossing, annoying, irritating, awesome and precisely how I like it. It’s a tricky maneuver, but freelance is my girl on the side, and Virb is into this open relationship as long as it don’t mess with our time. So I work the night shift, joyously.
One of the elements I miss from client work is the variety and the variability of projects. Working on a product is incredible and marathon-fulfilling, but client work is like crack in increments. I’m hoping to run a marathon and then have my crack. It’s an odd dichotomy but it worked for Coltrane.
There’s a hope that each will benefit the other as well.
I’m looking for agencies and freelancers: people who have tightly scoped projects that they just don’t have the time to get it done. Professionals who need help. If you go my site you’ll see this form:

Not a normal contact form, so let me explain through the magic of 2nd person storytelling!
What I’m looking for
You’re an agency or freelancer. The scope is set, you have a budget, the IA is worked out, you have a designer and you’re missing one last piece. You know what technology you want to work with. It could be specific functionality, it could be an entire site but you know what it is. You need it built, you come to me. I work with you to get it done. I make sure you get what you need to give to the client. They give you a huge pile of money and I walk away with a proportional amount-to-time ratio of that money and we have sexy money-fights. All. Night. Long. (all night)
What I’m not looking for
Strategy. Idea-Generating. Thought-leading. I’m here to build something for you. You let me know what that is. I always have opinions, but I will work within the scope. I’m not concerned about strategy. I’m concerned about getting the work done so we can have a weekend. I’m here to help you move something through to the finish.
Got it? Good. Let’s talk about the site’s lovely design.
Matt Anderson
I have been extremely fortunate in my line of work to speak with the best designers in the field. Being surrounded by great people tends to lead you to meet other great people.
Matt and I met in Seattle last year. I’ve always loved the work he did at OneHub, which has beautifully done UI elements and good clean design.
It was his work on the OneHub blog that really got the cranks… crankin. So, as all great things sometime happen in a short time, I took a shot in the dark and asked “Hey can you design this… and in a short time?”
I knew what I wanted, but what I did not expect was the level of understanding, work-ethic, generosity, laid-back-itude and help that Matt presented. The quality of his work and dedication to getting this done was just excellent.
Meanwhile, I spent my time drinking Lemon Drop Martinis. Do we capitalize Martinis? I’m never sure. Anyway…
I came to Matt with the basic HTML layout: Callout -> Client Work -> Personal Work -> Form and two words:
“Joyous Professionalism”
Listen, we all know where we need to go to read Kenny slang his bullshit like a rotund man’s bacon-wrapped hot dog stand at 2am in
crying for attention like a little girl hopped up on pain meds after a dentist visit: it’s here. This is a den of self-pity and self-flagulation because I didn’t pick the cool band this year. HMFT withstanding, I am optimistic. I’m an optimist.
That’s right, I said it: optimist. Optimist-Humanist. Humanoptimist Prime. Humanoptimist Prime and The Furious Five.
I know that my target audience are the people who surround me: nerds. There’s a great sense of humor and overall, a great sense of joy in this community. I wanted to convey that. Matt took it and exploded it.
Developers build the project, designers make it.
Matt f’n made it, and I can’t be grateful enough.
